Black is a well known cultural and artistic signifier of rebellion whilst at the same time indicating general deficiency and lifelessness. Likewise the blob-shape, in all its formlessness, might serve as a signal of missing information and thus the encounter of the unknown. Both shortages may naturally induce fear as representation of absence and in the end of death.
